IOWA GIVES THE ARNP A NAMED LIST AND THE MEDICAL SPA RULE A NAMED CATEGORY. An ARNP practices to the full extent of their license, education and experience within their population foci. Inside a medical spa, a nurse falls within the rule’s category of a QUALIFIED LICENSED OR CERTIFIED NONPHYSICIAN PERSON — someone licensed by another health or skin-care board who may perform a medical aesthetic service the medical director has delegated, under that director’s supervision.
An ARNP has the authority to practice to the full extent of the ARNP’s license, education, and experience in the ARNP’s respective population foci.

“Qualified licensed or certified nonphysician person” means any person who is not licensed to practice medicine and surgery or osteopathic medicine and surgery but who is licensed or certified by another health- or skin care-related licensing board in Iowa and is qualified to perform delegated medical aesthetic services under the supervision of a qualified supervising physician at a medical spa.

Ensure that a qualified licensed or certified nonphysician person does not perform any medical aesthetic services that are beyond the scope of that person’s license or certification unless the person is supervised by a qualified supervising physician or other qualified supervising nonphysician licensed health professional;
